HISPANICS FACE HURDLES AS POPULATION GROWS
Nearly 40 percent of their tests showed evidence of steering or disparate treatment.
Nana Ponceleon was one of the Hispanic testers in Newsday's investigation into real estate discrimination on Long Island. Alongside other testers, she discovered that Hispanic homebuyers were often subjected to unequal treatment by agents, including fewer listings and being steered toward more diverse areas. The investigation revealed significant disparities in how Hispanic and white buyers were treated, highlighting ongoing challenges in achieving fair housing access.
